EaglesLand Cultural Society of BC

Our History

The “Eaglesland” Albanian Society of British Columbia was established in September 2006. Prior to that, in the mid 60s, a group of Albanian Canadians were informally organizing community get togethers and various traditional events. This led to the creation of the Association of the Albanian Brotherhood in 1977 that was Chaired by Mr. Gjergj Dobreci.

The Brotherhood Society included distinguished members such as Zyber Xhaferri, Paloke Gjurashaj, Tome Gazdaj dhe Fidush Fida who gave an invaluable contribution in the organization of numerous events that brought people together in many community events. The Brotherhood Society ended its mission in 1998.

As an increasing number of Albanians made the beautiful province of British Columbia their home in mid 90’, the need for community events to celebrate traditional food, language and culture brought about the establishment of the “Eaglesland” Albanian Association of BC in 2006. Since then, our society has
grown profoundly by serving thousands of Albanian speaking individuals. Several distinguished volunteers helped in the foundation of the society including Estref Resuli, Petrit Anamali, Sokol Vukaj, Barjam Kerpi, Lazer Kulla, Edison Heba and Sokol Ivziku. Ardian Lagji is currently the Chair of the Society and has served in this position in the past as well. The past Chairs of the Society include Estref Resuli and Edison Heba.

Our organization puts together several community events on an annual basis including summer picnics, beach volleyball and soccer, Women’s Day event, book fairs, community fundraising, charity events, community dinner and dance, “Learn Albanian” programs, concerts, and the annual festivities for the celebration of the National Independence Day. In addition, the Eaglesland Albanian Association of BC, has participated in several multicultural community events such as the Surrey Fusion Fest, The European Festival, Cultural Display in Vancouver Public Library and many other events. The Surrey Fusion Fest festival is always very popular as it involves artistic programs, traditional dance and singing, and a cultural display of Albania’s history through the years.
